Defending Champion of the annual Bolowotan Gold Cup Competition, AACC FC of Ikorodu piped Destiny Boys of Imota by 2-1,at the Police Playing ground in Igbogbo, Ikorodu,Lagos State, on Sunday, to defend the trophy they lifted last time in 2012.
Fidelis Inyang opened the score sheet after 8 minutes of play, before Arogbotimi Kingsley leveled the scoreline in the 35th minute of the game, both teams put up good performance as their fans witnessed a pulsating final.
AACC were awarded a penalty in the 75th of the encounter when one of their players was hacked down in the box of the opponent, the center referee Idris Aina sounded his whistle for a penalty, AACC captain,Lukman Gilmore converted it as he sends the keeper to the wrong side of the goal pole.
Speaking after the match, AACC team manager, Dino Gilmore says “I don’t have doubt that the boys will retain the cup, because the team is built on mutual respect for one another, discipline, dedication, fairness”,
“What the boys accomplished today have never be done by another club, that is to win the trophy back to back, what is actually working for the team is unity and the believe that I instill in them to be the best they can be and to always give 110% in all that they do, he enthused.
The winner of the 6th Bolowotan Gold Cup, AACC went home with a sum of 75,000 naira, the second runner up, Destiny Boys returned to their base with 50,000 naira, while the third place winner Blue Stones of Ijede who defeated Playmakers of Itamaga by 1-0, went home with 30,000 naira, while their counterparts got 10,000 naira cash prize.
The 7th edition of the annual grassroots football competition will begin in February,7th, 2014 with an improved cash prize package where the winner will get 210,000 naira, second runner up will get 100,000 naira, the third place winner and fourth runner will get 70,000 and 50,000 naira respectively.
