The League Management Company(LMC) on Monday in Lagos ratifed a N1,896,730,000 three-year sponsorship deal with telecommunications giant Globacom for the apex League in Nigeria, the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Following this development, the association of the 20 Premier League Club Chairmen otherwise known as club owners have said they were not aware of any such deal as it was brokered without their knowledge and approval.
In addition, the club owners also threatened to disassociate themselves from any further deal entered into by the LMC until the current issues being handled by the Nigeria Football Fedaeration (NFF) is settled.
However the association warned that clubs in the NPFL should not allow any bill board or pitch panel bearing LMC Ltd or any of its sponsors at league venues forthwith.
The Acting Secretary of the club owners, Alloy chukwuemeka divulged in an interview monitored in Ilorin that the issue of League Management
Company Ltd is still a subject of debate which the NFF is trying to make peace over it and as such they have no such right to sign any deal or receive any cheque unbehalf of the league clubs without our knowledge and supports. He said the club owners are still waiting for the inconclusive meeting to be reconvened and salient issues thrashed before any deal could be entered into.
He opined that the rush by LMC in accepting a cheque is a mere celebration of tokenness, adding that similar deals in the past between the league and Glo had brought more money than what they are celebrating.
Alloy says” look all I can say now is that since we had the inconclusive meeting last time we are yet to meet so I don’t know any meeting where such deal was
discussed before it was sealed and paid for. So we are still waiting for NFF to reconvene the meeting.
” My friend all I know is that the clubs are not aware of any deal sealed in Lagos but even at that the amount you are mentioning we are used to it or
are they celebrating tokenness” he concluded.
