Three Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) players and one Nigeria National League (NNL) player now has a Publicity Manager who manages their media activities and projects them to Nigeria League Followers outside the shores of the Country.
The duo of former Abubarka Bukola Saraki Football Club (ABSFC) sensational players, Stone Evbuomwan, who recently teamed up with Dolphin Football Club of Port Harcourt, Ichull Lordson who is now enjoying life in the City of Warri with Warri Wolves, Iliya Jibo of Kaduna United and Akinbode Jelili who featured for Akwa Starlets in the NNL last season have employed one of the League veteran as their Publicist ahead of the new League season.
The Publicist who prefer to be anonymous disclosed to waleandsport.com that, having looked into the Nigeria League, he discovered that the major actors in the League are not known to their Fans both in and outside Nigeria and to prospective clubs outside the country who may want to employ their services , that a whole lot of them cannot attend to media men for interviews because they don’t know how to say what they have to say to the media making it imperative for someone to manage them hence his decision to work with Lordson, Stone, Iliya and Akinbode.
Stone while speaking to waleandsport.com said; “I am excited with this development and I feel this is one of the things League players needed in promoting their game as they do the business on the pitch week in week out, it’s a great opportunity to have a Publicist and I will advice other players to be part of this new beginning because it will help them a lot,” the lanky Midfielder enthused.
Lordson on the other hand believe that each sportsman needs publicity especially Nigeria League players, he opined that; “the English players are made famous through the media paparazzi they get in their country, and not because they are the best in sports, by this initiative and good performance from the players, then the sky will just be our starting point, we are talented in Nigeria but we lacked other thing that talent can do.
” I want to use this opportunity to thank the media houses, who made our league more interesting last season by reporting it to the public, we need the media more than they needed us and I believe they will continue to talk about us,” said the former ABS FC rookie who netted nine league goals last season.
Akinbode also shared his thought and said; “I think this is what most Nigeria players are lacking, this is one of the things that makes the English football market so expensive, they always talk about their players performance on and off the pitch, I believe this great idea will not only project the players but it will also portray the league in a good light,” the Akwa Starlets Man-mountain told waleandsport.com
Kaduna United winger, Iliya Jibo said getting a Publicist is not all that make a player great but good performance on the pitch and good morals off the pitch” a Publicist is an end to a means and not the means to an end, my performance as a player on the field of play and moral conducts off the field of play are what will make up to become a better player, although the media have their role to play, so I see this partnering as a welcome development” he concluded.
